Farnham Castle

Farnham Castle is one of those venues that stops you in your tracks the moment you arrive. Sitting high above the town of Farnham with sweeping views across the Surrey countryside, the former medieval fortress has a dramatic presence that very few venues in the South East can match, and as a wedding videographer it's one of the most rewarding locations I've worked in.

I had full access to the castle and grounds throughout the day, from the bridal preparations inside through to the evening reception, and that access makes a real difference to the final film. Getting those early, quiet moments of the morning, a bride by a window, the groom straightening his bow tie, the bridesmaids gathering, all within the walls of a medieval castle, gives the film a sense of depth and story that starts long before the ceremony.

The variety the castle offers across a single day is exceptional. Historic stone interiors, open lawns, a rooftop terrace with the Surrey Hills stretching out behind the couple, archways and blue doors and centuries-old stonework at every turn. For a videographer, it's an almost unfair advantage.

The day at Farnham Castle begins with a sense of calm and quiet occasion. The bridal preparation rooms inside the castle have a beautiful quality of light and the kind of architectural detail that makes even the getting-ready footage feel cinematic. Stone walls, tall windows, ornate mirrors, it all adds texture and character to those early shots that sets the tone for everything that follows.

The ceremony inside the castle carries real weight. The historic interiors give the vows a sense of occasion that feels earned rather than manufactured, and with pink floral arrangements softening the grandeur of the room, the atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between impressive and intimate. The confetti moment outside the castle doors, with the brick facade and the grounds behind, is consistently one of the highlights of the edit.

The grounds then open up for portraits and the drinks reception. The rooftop terrace in particular is a standout location, with far-reaching views across the Surrey countryside giving the couple portraits a cinematic quality that's hard to find elsewhere. The archways, stone walls and mature gardens offer constant variety without ever needing to stray far.

As the evening draws in, the castle pulls everything back indoors into a warmer, more intimate atmosphere. The character of the interiors holds throughout, and the final film has a real sense of progression from the quiet morning preparations all the way through to the celebration of the evening.

How a wedding day flows at Farnham Castle

Farnham Castle has a setting that feels dramatic and timeless, shaped by its historic architecture and elevated position above the surrounding countryside. The stone walls, open lawns and sweeping views create an atmosphere that is rich in character while still feeling calm and composed throughout the day.

Inside, the atmosphere is warm and inviting, with historic features softened by natural light and generous proportions. As the day progresses, the mood shifts naturally, from focused and ceremonial earlier on to more relaxed and intimate as celebrations continue into the evening.

This contrast between grandeur and warmth gives the venue real depth. Whether guests are enjoying the outdoor spaces or gathering within the castle itself, the atmosphere remains considered and immersive, allowing the day to feel both meaningful and unforced.

Couples love Farnham Castle for its sense of history, presence and atmosphere. The venue feels genuinely special, offering a setting that adds meaning and depth to the day while still allowing it to feel personal and grounded.

The combination of historic interiors, open grounds and far-reaching views gives couples confidence that their wedding will feel both structured and relaxed. It’s a venue that balances grandeur with warmth, making it an ideal choice for couples who want their celebration to feel timeless, considered and full of character.
